Project Description:
The applicant proposes to renew and expand an existing permitted mine site. The expansion consists of increasing the Life-of-Mine from 27 acres to 77 acres. This modification was Publicly noticed on 11/07/2001. That notice erroneously stated the Life-of- Mine Boundary as being expanded to 52 acres. Ongoing mining and processing activities include blasting, crushing, washing, screening of limestone and the manufacturing of asphalt. The primary purpose of this modification is to include all processing locations and areas for the storage of topsoil and overburden, to be used during reclamation, within the Life of Mine Boundary. Total acreage authorized for excavation will increase by approximately 3.5 acres. The project is located approximately one half mile east of State Route 30, approximately 2.4 miles south of the village of Schoharie.
State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination:
Project is a Type I action and will not have a significant effect on the environment. A coordinated review with other agencies was performed and a Negative Declaration is on file.
SEQR Lead Agency:
NYS Department of Environmental Conservation
State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:
Cultural resource lists and map have been checked. No registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures were identified at the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.
Coastal Management:
This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.
Opportunity for Public Comment:
Comments on this project must be submitted in writing to the Contact Person no later than Mar 5 2004.
