Public Notice
The Department of Environmental Conservation has determined that the Registry of Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal Sites in New York State needs to be amended to delete site number 808014, known as the LRC Electronics, Inc. site. This site is located in the Town of Horseheads, in the County of Chemung, and is located at 901 South Avenue. The reason for deletion is:
- The Interim Remedial Measures (IRMs) taken which include the removal of oil seepage pits, cleaning of dry wells, and the installation of the soil vapor extraction system have been very effective in reducing the level of groundwater contamination. Verification sampling of soils indicates Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) concentrations are below the NYSDEC Recommended Soil Cleanup Objectives. Since 1996, concentrations of petroleum compounds have been below NYS Groundwater Standards. Since February 2002, the groundwater sampling results indicate freon 113 remains non-detect and trichloroethene (TCE) concentrations have stabilized close to the NYS groundwater standard of 5 ppb. No VOCs are detected above 5 ppb in off-site monitoring wells. A deed notification stating the site is an inactive hazardous waste site was filed in the Chemung County Clerk's Office on November 14, 2000. The area is served by a public water supply.
Written comments on this proposed deletion are welcome, and should be sent to:
