Suffolk County - Suffolk County, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Restoration and Management of Maritime Grassland in T. Roosevelt County Park and Montauk Point State Park: A Plan for 2003-2012 will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the restoration of native maritime grasses within a 290 acre management area of T. Roosevelt County Park in order to increase the abundance of this rare community, which once dominated the landscape. Currently there are 40 acres of grassland in the management area. It is proposed to increase the number of units being managed and restore an additional 90 acres of grassland by 2012. By restoring another 80 acres by 2022, the management area will have reached the ultimate goal of 210 acres. This would be accomplished by using prescribed burns in conjunction with mechanical clearing of woody vegetation and then sowing of native grassland species.
