Project Description:
The applicant has applied for a mining permit renewal and and modification to expand their currently-permitted 24.2-acre Life of Mine (LOM) sand and gravel pit to include a total LOM of 98.2 acres. The mine will continue to operate as a traditional surface excavation of sand and gravel using mechanical equipment, with proposed on-site screening (processing) by portable machinery. Materials will be not be mined from below the water table. The mine is located on the west side of Thompson Road, 0.08 miles north of its junction with Graves Road. Application materials are available for public review and comment at the NYS DEC Regional Sub-Office in Warrensburg.
State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination:
Project is a Type I action and will not have a significant effect on the environment. A coordinated review with other agencies was performed and a Negative Declaration is on file.
SEQR Lead Agency:
NYS Department of Environmental Conservation
State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:
The proposed activity is not subject to review in accordance with SHPA. The permit type is exempt or the activity is being reviewed in accordance with federal historic preservation regulations.
Coastal Management:
This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.
Opportunity for Public Comment:
Comments on this project must be submitted in writing to the Contact Person no later than Jan 16 2004.
