Negative Declaration

Suffolk County - The Long Island Power Authority, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Riverhead to Jamesport Transmission System Upgrade will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The project will result in the replacement of the existing 23 kilovolt (“kV”) transmission line, which includes six conductors (wires), with a state-of-the art 69 kV transmission line that consists of only three conductors. Associated substation equipment will also be replaced. While the existing transmission line is entirely overhead, nearly half of the replacement line will be placed underground. Where the replacement line will be overhead, it will follow the route of the existing transmission line, and the existing lattice-type towers will be removed and replaced with slender modern monopoles. The project is located in Southampton and Riverhead, New York.
