The Department has completed
its initial review of a renewal and modification
application and has accepted, as suitable for public review, the draft Supplemental
Environmental Impact Statement (dSEIS) from Hanson Aggregates New York, Inc. for
their existing quarry located west of Upper Holley Road in the Town of Clarendon. The
modification proposes: (1) changes to the Mine Land Use Plan (MLUP) regarding surface
water drainage in the vicinity of the quarry; (2) changes to the location of the quarry
sump; (3) addition of diesel-powered backup emergency electrical generating equipment;
(4) improvements to the quarry access road; and (5) changes to the dewatering discharge
locations. Additionally , the dSEIS evaluates groundwater and surface water impacts
associated with the proposed project modifications and addresses new information on
groundwater and surface water impacts discovered since dewatering operations
commenced in 2000. Application materials and the dSEIS are available for public review
and comment at the Regional Office of NYS DEC.

The Department has made
a tentative determination to modify an existing SPDES permit
for an existing discharge of process and cooling wastewater, from a metal-fabricated
parts and components facility, to Outfall 001 to groundwater and outfall 002 to a
tributary of Cold Brook. This modification includes the elimination of monitoring for
trichloroethylene. This chemical has not been used for more than 10 years and analytical
results have been non-detect for this time period. The draft permit is available for review
and comment at NYSDEC Region 8.
