The State University of
New York at Binghamton proposes to operate a WR2 Tissue
Digester to process and treat limited sources and quantities (20 to 30 lbs. per month) of
regulated medical wastes (RMW) generated on campus. The WR2 Tissue Digester
converts animal, human, and microbial tissues into a sterile, EPA neutral, aqueous
solution suitable for disposal to a sanitary sewer. Remaining bone shadows and
cellulose not broken down in the process may be safely managed as solid waste. The
WR2 Process sterilizes and digests in one operation, reduces waste volume and weight by
up to 97%, and completely destroys pathogens. The WR2 is located in Room B27,
