Public Notice

Region 1 - The Department of Environmental Conservation has determined that the Registry of Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal Sites in New York State needs to be amended to delete site number 130043U, known as the 36 Sylvester Street Site. This site is located in the Town of North Hempstead, in the County of Nassau, and is located at 36 Sylvester Street. The reason for deletion is:

- An Interim remedial Measure (IRM) removing contaminated sediments from a dry well located on the Southwest corner of the property was carried out in May 2002. End point samples showed that the contamination was successfully removed. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) contamination remaining in on-site groundwater has been attributed to two upgradient sources. It has been determined that no consequential amount of hazardous waste remain in soils at this site. A Record of Decision (ROD) was signed in March 2003 specifying that no further action need to be taken at this site.

Written comments on this proposed deletion are welcome, and should be sent to:

Project Manager: Joseph Jones, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Division of Environmental Remediation, 625 Broadway - 11th Floor, Albany, NY 12233-7015

All written comments must be received by August 9, 2003. A summary of all written comments will be assembled and a summary will be available for viewing at our Region 1 Headquarters in Stony Brook, NY.
