The applicant proposes to
repair an existing 12' H x 120' L dam at the Ausable Club. The
dam is constructed of a rock-filled timber crib structure with stone and concrete masonry
abutments, steel plate over spillway face, and a timber splash deck. It is a hazard Class
"B" dam. Existing stone masonry will be repointed. The height of the wingwalls
will be
raised by approx. 2'. Timber splash apron will be replaced, with new concrete footing
and scour abutments to be installed. Rip rap (45 CY) will be placed in front of the sluice
gates, and large bounders (60 CY) for energy dissipation and wing wall protection will be
placed below the spillway in the East Branch of the Ausable River. Temporary coffer
dams placed immediately upstream and downstream of the dam will isolate the work site
from the water. The dam is located at the outlet of Lower Ausable Lake in St. Huberts.

The applicant proposes to
expand a previously approved 115-acre Life of Mine (including
a sand and gravel mining area and a 20-acre granite quarry area) by an additional 34.3
acres, for a total new Life of Mine of 149.3 acres. The expansion will increase the size of
the quarry area to 57.3 acres. 44 acres are currently affected. A total of 49.6 acres is
proposed to be affected during the current permit term, ending 1/31/07. No changes in
blasting or processing methods will occur as a result of this expansion. The mine is
located on the East side of US Route 9, South of Moss Road, north of the hamlet of
Lewis. This proposed expansion is also subject to review and approval by the
Adirondack Park Agency (APA#2002-58).

The project involves the
relocation of the single span, Goodnow Road Bridge, on a new
1,400' approach, just downstream of the Goodnow Flow Dam. The new bridge will be
constructed of steel trusses, steel stringers, and a concrete deck, and will involve
approximately 70' of streambank disturbance for the abutments and supporting rip-rap.
The existing, temporary bridge and approach roadways will remain open during
construction of the new bridge and roadway.
