The Department has made
a tentative determination to approve this application to modify
a SPDES permit to increase an existing surface discharge from 180,000 gallons per day
(gpd) to 300,000 gpd of treated sanitary wastewater from the applicant's municipal
wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) into the Shawangunk Kill (Class B). The project
involves upgrading the Pine Bush WWTP to meet projected future demand and includes
construction of two new ultraviolet (UV) disinfection units, two new clarifiers, new flow
metering and effluent metering, and a new aerobic sludge digester. The project is located
on Hardenburgh Road approximately 2000 feet north of Red Mill Road in the Town of
Crawford.

construct an approximately 1/10 of an acre pond partially
within the wetland and buffer zone of Freshwater Wetland M-17, a Class II wetland. The
excavated material will be disposed on site, partially being used as fill behind an existing
stone wall that will be reconstructed within the wetland buffer area. A 30-40 foot long, 4
foot wide boardwalk to access property outside the wetand is proposed, as well as
upgrading an existing shallow well in the wetland, and digging of a new shallow well
approximately 20 feet within the wetland adjacent area.
