The applicant proposes a
new 17.79 acre sand and gravel mine. The site, located on the
north side of Peaseleville Road, at the Denton Road intersection, is part of an 83.95 acre
parcel owned by Douglas Rushford. During the first 5-year permit term, 4.90 acres will
be mined. Concurrent reclamation will occur as mining reaches the limits of the life of
mine area, and final reclamation of all areas will occur within two years of completion of
mining. Reclamation includes establishment of grass cover, and subsequent natural
establishment of woody vegetation. A permit is also required from the Adirondack Park
Agency (APA # 2002-288).

The permittee is proposing
a modification to the existing mining permit to allow for the
extraction of bedrock from an 18.4 acre section of the previously permitted 453 acre life
of mine. The method of extraction proposed will include standard drilling and and
blasting to create properly sized material that can then be transported to the existing
processing plant. This material will then be crushed and screened to create aggregate for
use at the existing Pompa facility in Milton.
