Project Description:

The project is a commercial sand and gravel extraction (i.e. sand pit) with a 2.75 acre life of mine area on a 6.5 acre parcel of property. The applicant proposes extraction of a maximum of 4,000 cubic yards of sand on an annual basis. The proposed mining operation will operate from April to November, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The applicant anticipates an average of two to three trucks (i.e. small or tandem dump trucks) per day with NYS Route 374 and County Route 54 being the main haul roads. The main market area will be the towns of Bellmont, Ellenburg and Dannemora. The only equipment to be used in the mining operation is a front-end loader. No crushing operations will occur at the site. Water will be used to keep dust at a minimum during dry times.

Negative Declaration

Saratoga County - The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed sale or transfer of portions of the Champlain Canal lands will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the sale or transfer of portions of the Champlain Canal lands, acquired by Saratoga County for highway purposes and no longer needed, to adjoining landowners. The project is located along Route 4, Towns of Stillwater and Saratoga.

Washington County - The Village of Salem, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Village of Salem Water Supply Optimization will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action under consideration includes the installation of a new well, a treatment building, storage tanks and approximately 50, 000 linear feet of water main to distribute the water drawn from the new well. The proposed project is required to construct a new municipal potable water system in a manner compliant with NYS Department of Health regulations, and the Safe Water Drinking Act (SWDA) of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (per 1986 amendments). The project will occur entirely within the corporate limits of the Village of Salem. This project does not include the installation of a municipal sanitary sewer system. The project will involve the installation of new water mains within the rights-of-way of Village roadways. Installation will occur throughout the Village of Salem. All installations will occur within the corporate limits of the Village of Salem.
