Onondaga County - The City of Syracuse Department of Water, as lead agency, has accepted a Final Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Revisions to the Watershed Rules and Regulations of the City of Syracuse. The action involves the Watershed Rules and Regulations for the Skaneateles Lake Watershed were last revised in 1974. The dual purpose of the proposed revision is to protect the health and general welfare of the public, and to meet criteria set by the New York State Department of Health for a continued filtration waiver for the public water supply of the City of Syracuse. The current watershed regulations do not reflect interim changes in state law or contemporary practices for watershed management. Advances in the sciences related to watershed management have created a need for updating the Watershed Rules and Regulations for the health and general welfare of the public. The proposed revised Watershed Rules and Regulations reference state and environmental concerns within the watershed. The project is located Skaneateles Lake Watershed (73 sq. mi.), including portions of Onondaga, Cayuga, and Cortland Counties, New York. Watershed Municipalities: Village of Skaneateles; Towns of Skaneateles, Marcellus, Owasco, Spafford, Niles., Sempronius, and Scott.
