The Long Island North Shore Heritage Area Planning Commission, with the Town of Huntington acting as fiscal agent, is soliciting proposals for preparation of a Management Plan that will guide the programs and development of this New York State Heritage Area. The mission of the LINSHA Planning Commission is to preserve, protect, and enhance the cultural, historical and natural resources which define the North Shore of Long Island and to promote responsible economic development of the area compatible within the historical and natural environment. The Long Island North Shore Heritage Area (LINSHA) encompasses all of Nassau and Suffolk Counties lying north of Routes 25 and 495.
The project entails preparation of a management plan that addresses the New York State Heritage Areas System goals of cultural resource management for regional economic revitalization, highlighting: identification and preservation of natural and historic places, education about local, regional and natural history, recreational use of special places, and economic development with public an private investment. Required tasks will include inventorying resources, assessing current plans and trends, coordinating public participation in the planning process, and recommending strategies for interpretation, conservation and preservation of Heritage Area resources, sustainable economic activity, and improving the quality of life of residents and visitors through enhanced recreational opportunities.
Responses to the RFP are due March 24. A pre-submission meeting will be held March 3, 2003, at 2:00 p.m., at the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum, 180 Little Neck Road, Centerport, New York.
