Nassau County - The Board of Education of the Westbury Union Free School District, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed additions and alterations at the existing Westbury Middle School will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the Board of Education of the Westbury Union Free School District proposing additions and alterations to the existing Westbury Middle School to address projected enrollment increases and programmatic needs. Specifically, approximately 56,950 square feet of additional area is proposed such that the existing 139,050 square foot middle school would be increased to 196,000 square feet. The proposed expansion would include a new two-story, 16 classroom addition totaling 48,850 square feet at the eastern portion of the existing building. In addition, a 7,000 square foot expansion to the existing cafeteria, as well as an 1,100 square foot expansion to the existing auditorium are proposed. Several interior improvements are also proposed, including an internal expansion to the existing library and media center; alterations to 35 classrooms; corridor improvements; renovations to the auditorium and stage, administrative offices, locker rooms, gym areas, kitchen, cafeteria and toilet rooms. Other miscellaneous site work is also proposed, including the replacement of doors and windows, gymnasium roof, boilers and exhaust fans; as well as upgrades to the electrical and temperature control systems. The proposed plan includes the relocation and re configuration of athletic fields. Currently, the baseball and football fields overlap within the interior of a non-regulation running track located at the southwestern portion of the site. The proposed action includes relocating the football field and installing a regulation running track at the northeastern portion of the site. The baseball and softball fields would be redeveloped in the area of the existing football field. Also, six tennis courts would be relocated from the northwestern portion of the site to the north-central portion of the site, and thus, situated to the west of the proposed relocated football field and running track. The project is located at 455 Rockland Street, Incorporated Village of Westbury, Nassau County, New York.
