Project Description:
The applicant proposes to
utilize a 17 acre parcel adjacent to the existing Town Landfill
on County Road # 48 for the purpose of composting the Town's yard waste. To achieve
an appropriate working surface and grade for the composting activity the project includes
the removal of approximately 12' of surface material. Some of the removed material will
be used on site to create the proper grading and for berms and some will be used to
facilitate the capping of the adjacent landfill. The remaining material is to be removed
off site. The composting portion of the project involves the composting of up to 42,000
cubic yards of yard waste per year on 12 acres of the site. The proposed composting
facility site is located on the west side of the Cutchogue Landfill, north of County Road
48, east of Depot Lane, in the locality of Cutchogue, Town of Southold, SCTM # 1000-96-01-02.
