Notice of Acceptance of Final EIS

Suffolk County - The Suffolk County The Planning Board of the Town of Huntington, as lead agency, has accepted a Final Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Old Orchard Woods (Subdivision). The action involves a request for the subdivision of a 24.21-acre parcel for the subsequent construction of ten (10) new single-family homes. Access is to be provided by a single roadway, approximately 600-foot in length from North Creek Road, terminating in a pair of cul-de-sacs in a T-intersection arrangement. Storm water will be collected and discharged to a 1.51-acre recharge basin located in the northeastern corner of the site. Sanitary wastewater collection and treatment is proposed via disposal to sub surface septic systems. Public water is to be provided by the Suffolk County Water Authority. The project is located on North Creek Road, approximately 750 feet west of the North Creek Road/Eatons Neck Road intersection in the hamlet of Eatons Neck, Town of Huntington, designated as parcel 0400-01-01-02-4.1 on the Suffolk County Tax Map. The site has approximately 795 feet of frontage on Long Island Sound.

This notice is issued pursuant to Part 617 of the implementing regulations pertaining to Article 8 (State Environmental Quality Review Act) of the Environmental Conservation Law.

As noticed in the October 9, 2002 issue of the ENB, a Draft Environmental Impact Statement has been completed and accepted for the proposed action described below. A public hearing on the Draft EIS will be held at 7:00 pm on November 20, 2002, at the Brookhaven Town Hall Auditorium, Building 4, Route 112, Medford, NY. The comment period has been extended; comments are requested and will be accepted by the Lead Agency until December 2, 2002.

Project Title: Central Pine Barrens Core Preservation Area hardship permit application for Amerada Hess.

Project Description: The project involves requests for approvals for a change of zone from J-2 Business to J-2 and J-5 Business, and for plans to construct a gasoline filling station with four 10,000 gallon underground gasoline storage tanks, a canopy, pumps, fast-food/convenience store, parking for seventeen cars, and associated infrastructure on 1.2 acres located in the Central Pine Barrens Core Preservation Area.

Project Location: Southeast corner of NYS Route 495 (Long Island Expressway) and County Route 111, Manorville, Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County. NY State DEC Region # 1. Suffolk County Tax Map Parcel # 200 - 462 - 2 - 5.1

A copy of the Draft EIS is on file at the Central Pine Barrens Commission office and the DEIS can be made available with advance request during regular business hours.
