Project Description:
The
applicant proposes to develop a new sand and gravel mine on a portion of a 38
acre parcel owned by David Huestis along Vineyard Road in the Town of Ticonderoga. A
total of 8.3 acres will be disturbed by mining activities over the life of the mine which is
projected to be 8 years. It is estimated that no more than 2 acres will be cleared and
grubbed in preparation for mining in any given year and that 100,000 cubic yards of
material will be removed annually. A portable screen and crusher will be used to process
material on site and processed material will be stored on site. A 1000 feet long
access/haul road will connect the mine site to Vineyard Road approximately 30 feet north
of power pole #20. Reclamation will take place concurrently with mining as portions of
the mine are cut to final design grade and as working space allows. Reclamation will
consist of grading to stable 1 on 2 slopes which will be covered with stockpiled
overburden material, then limed, fertilized and seeded to establish a uniform vegetative
cover.
The
project is also being reviewed by the Adirondack Park Agency as APA Proj.
