|Availability of Voluntary Cleanup Project Remedial Action Work Plan for Comment (Kings Electronics, VCP Site No. V00237-3)|
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation
Project Location: 40 Marbledale Road, village of Tuckahoe
Project Description: The buildings on the 1.82 acre site have at various times been used for an icehouse, woodwork and furniture manufacturing, office space and manufacture of electronic component fittings and parts. In March 1999, as the result of investigation activities conducted by Kings Electronics, the suspected source area of trichloroethene (TCE) contamination was excavated and disposed of off site at an approved facility. TCE groundwater impacts remain both on and off site. A pilot scale study was conducted for the use of in-situ enhanced bioremediation utilizing injections of molasses to enhance degradation of the TCE. The pilot study has been shown to be successful at treating the groundwater contamination and is proposed for full scale use. The volunteer will install two monitoring wells off site to assess the impact of on-site remedial work on the contaminant plume that extends off site. The monitoring results will be used to determine if the off site portion of the plume needs to be addressed separately. No drinking water wells exist in the area and a soil gas investigation will be conducted to ensure there is no exposure risk to the residents/users of nearby buildings.
There is a 30 day comment period, for the Remedial Action Work Plan, commencing with the date of this publication and ending on October 10, 2002.
