Project Title: The Nature Conservancy Round Lake Tract
Location: NYS Route 30 and the Sabattis Road, Towns of Long Lake and Piercefield, Hamilton and St. Lawrence Counties
Comment Period Ends: September 12, 2002
Project Description: The project involves the subdivision of 10,000" acres into three lots, thereby creating a 5,730" acre lot (Lot 1), a 2,700" acre lot (Lot2), and a 1,570" acre lot (Lot 3). Lot 1 is proposed for conveyance to the State of New York for inclusion in the Forest Preserve. Lots 2 and 3 will be retained by the Nature Conservancy or conveyed to a third party and will be the subject of a Conservation Easement between the Nature Conservancy and the People of the State of New York represented by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. The Conservation Easement will among other things extinguish the principal building rights associated with the two retained lots, preserve the property for forest management purposes and eventually limit each lot to no more than eight hunting and fishing cabins. The Conservation Easement will also allow for a snowmobile trail across Lot 2. The project site is located west of NYS Route 30 and north of the Sabattis Road. Water features on the site include Round Lake, Loon Pond, Lost Pond, Bear Pond, Round Lake Outlet and the Bog River. There are freshwater wetlands on all of the lots. Portions of Lot 1 are within the "river areas" of Round Lake Outlet and the Bog River, both designated Scenic Rivers by the NYS Wild, Scenic and Recreational River System Act.

Project Title: New York State Department of Environmental Conservation
Location: Aldrich Pond Wild Forest in the Town of Fine, St. Lawrence County
Comment Period Ends: September 12, 2002
Project Description: The action involves the reconstruction of four bridges and replacement of several culverts along a designated snowmobile trail known as the Tamarack Creek Trail. As part of this proposal, an existing 300± foot long wetland/stream crossing is to be replaced with a 120± foot long, 8 foot wide wooden bridge. The bridge is to be supported by three, 4 foot by 8 foot wooden cribs. Approximately 120 square feet of regulated wetlands will be impacted by the project. The bridge will be hand constructed within the wetland area; no machinery will be operated in this area.
