Project Description: R. J. Valente Gravel
Inc. is proposing to continue
surface mining of Sand and Gravel from 76
acres of a 254 acre property. This activity has taken place at this location for many years with a
total area affected of 22 acres to date. The application proposes to remove 23 acres of the
previously permitted life of mine and add an additional 27 acres to the life of mine. Mining
would be conducted in a single phase; the duration of this phase will be controlled by market
demands. Unconsolidated materials would be excavated from the existing mining face working
away from the existing excavation face and moving east toward the life of mine boundary. The
proposed mining operation will utilize front end loaders to excavate sand and gravel.
Processing of the excavated material, by a portable crushing, screening and washing plant, has
been previously permitted at this site. A 1000 foot haul road will provide direct access to
Liebich Lane which connects to NYS Route 9 (NYS Department of Transportation). The
processed material will be drawn from the mine site to the specific job sites by tandem axle, tri-axle
and tractor trailer dump trucks. During normal operations the facility will have 100 loaded
truck per day leaving the mine site. The reclamation objective is to create land suitable for open
space or for potential future residential and commercial development in accordance with future
needs and zoning requirements. A copy of the application is available for review at the DEC
office in Warrensburg during normal business hours.
