Project Description: The company is requesting
a modification of its current permit to allow it to accept
biosolids (sludges) from various municipal wastewater treatment facilities for use in
manufacturing compost. Their composting facility currently utilizes sludges from paper
mills and other commercial and industrial sources and mixes them with cow manure and
organic bulking agents to manufacture compost that can be used for landscaping and
other purposes. The facility is permitted to handle up to 400 tons per day of these
materials and is located on on State Route 5s approximately 4 miles west of the village of
Fort Plain.
