Positive Declaration and Public Scoping Session

Ontario and Yates Counties - The Ontario County Soil and Water Conservation District, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Promulgation of a Timber Harvesting Ordinance to be locally adopted by the municipalities within the Canandaigua and Honeoye Lake watersheds may have a significant adverse environmental impact and a Draft Environmental Impact State must be prepared. A public scoping session will be held on Monday, June 24, 2002 at the South Bristol Town Hall, 6500 Gannett Hill Road West at 7:00 p.m. The action involves the adoption of a model timber harvesting ordinance by local municipalities with the Canandaigue and Honeoye watersheds which will benefit water quality within the respective watersheds, as well as the local forestry-based economy. The Council and Task Force have worked together to draft a model ordinance, and have recognized that if harvesting practices are carried out poorly, significant and direct environmental damages may occur to adjacent lands and water resources. The project is located in the Towns of Bristol; Middlesex; South Bristol; Italy; Naples; and Richmond.
