Project Description: The applicant proposes to excavate sand and gravel below the water table from
a surface unconsolidated formation on a 13.4 acre mining facility on a 135.8 acre
parcel. The site will be reclaimed as a pond, subdivision road, and open space.
Screening or processing of material may occur on-site but will require a
modification of the permit and mining plans as specific details become available.
The mine, known as the Wells gravel pit, is located west of the Village of Central
Square and south of NYS Rte. 49 in the Town of Hastings.
