Permit(s) Applied for: Article 24 Freshwater Wetlands
Article 15 Title 15 Water Supply
Project is Located: Wappinger, Dutchess County
Project Description:
The Town of Wappinger has applied for a Water Supply permit (WSA #10309) to develop four (4) new wells in the Atlas Wellfield, to abandon three (out of five) existing wells in that same wellfield and to increase the total approved water taking from that wellfield.
The two existing wells to be retained are Wells #99-1 and #99-3, previously approved by this Department at rates not to exceed 411 and 402 gallons per minute (gpm), respectively.  The new wells would be Wells #024, #025, #026 & #027, rated at 250, 300, 350 and 200 gpm, respectively.  They also propose to increase the total approved water taking at that wellfield from the current limit of 1,350 gpm to the proposed limit of 1,500 gpm.
Additionally, the Town of Wappinger proposes to construct a 16inch diameter water main through approximately 450 feet of DEC regulated Freshwater Wetland WF25 (Class-3) in order to transport water to customers in other locations in the Town.  The pipeline route is adjacent to an existing 8inch diameter waterline in an existing utility easement through the wetland.  After construction of the 16-inch diameter pipeline, the Town proposes to completely restore the work corridor through the wetland by replacing the top 12 inches of soil in the trench with native soils to encourage the restoration of native wetland plant species.
The wellfield is located off Helen Drive, which is off Cindy Lane and Myers Corners Road. The 16-inch  waterline would cross the wetland from the east end of Heartstone Drive (which is off Widmer Road) to Myers Corners Road near its intersection with Fenmore Drive.  Both the wells and the pipeline are located in the Town of Wappinger, Dutchess County NY.
