Voluntary Cleanup Project

Project Title: 153 Fillmore Ave., Tonawanda

Project Description: The project site consists of a 1.7 acre abandoned manufacturing facility to be redeveloped for commercial and/or light industrial use. The site investigation, conducted in 2001, indicates that the soils are contaminated with low levels of organic chemicals and metals. The three underground storage tanks encountered during the investigation have been emptied and removed. The cleanup of this site will include removal and off site disposal of the contaminated soils that remain in a 120 by 140 foot area in the northwest corner of the property, and placement of a twelve inch thick cover of clean soil or of an equivalent thickness of pavement throughout the site.

Negative Declaration

Erie County - The Town of Amherst Planning Board, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Amherst Office Park Road & Utilities and Amherst Office Park Building will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The site plan for the proposed Amherst Office Park road and utilities (SP-01-02) shows 1,800 linear feet of roadway on 5.81 acres of land to be built in two phases to serve the proposed office park. The plan includes the extension of waterline, sanitary sewer and storm sewer infrastructure. The site plan for the proposed Amherst Office Park office building (SP-02-02) shows a 39,005 sq. ft. office building with 263 parking spaces. The proposed building will be situated on a 7.11 acre portion of the project site, at the southeastern corner of the property. Access to the building will be via the proposed new road for the office park. The project is located at 2360 & 2370 Wehrle Drive, Amherst.

Notice of Acceptance of Draft Supplemental EIS

Erie County - The Town of Amherst Town Board, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Supplemental EIS on the proposed Canterbury Woods Phase II. The action involves the modification of conditions of the 1995 rezoning and the Certification of Findings (dated February 3, 1997) for the Canterbury Woods development which pertain to:

Areas of potential environmental impact include aesthetic resources, drainage, open space, and growth and character of the neighborhood. The petitioner is the Episcopal Church Home & Affiliates Life Care Community, Inc. The project is located at 705 Renaissance Drive, Amherst.

Notice of Acceptance of Draft EIS and Public Hearing

Erie County - The New York Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation (OPRHP) and the Town of Amherst, as co-lead agencies, has accepted a Draft EIS on the proposed Adoption and Implementation of a Master Plan for Amherst State Park. A public hearing will be held at the Amherst Municipal Building, 5583 Main Street, Williamsville, NY. The hearing will be held on May 13, 2002 beginning at 7 PM. Comments are requested and may be provided at the hearing or in writing to the Agency Contact(s) no later than the end of the comment period, June 3, 2002. The Amherst State Park is located at 400 Mill Street, in the Town of Amherst, Erie County. The property is situated along Ellicott Creek, immediately north of Glen Avenue in the Village of Williamsville, south of Sheridan Drive, west of Mill Street and east of Reist Street and the Park Country Club. Amherst State Park is owned by NYS OPRHP and will be developed, operated and maintained by the Town of Amherst under a management agreement with the State. The Master Plan for the park includes construction of multiple use trails through out the park, small parking areas, restrooms and other park related facilities.
