220-acre parcel of land east of Sheather Road and west of High and Searles Streets in the
Towns of New Castle and North Castle. The project involves the construction of a 36-lot
residential subdivision to be known as Hammond Ridge. Construction of the stormwater
detention basins and one residential driveway will disturb about 0.9 acres of the 100-foot
adjacent area of Freshwater Wetland K-17. In addition, approximately 0.61 acres of
federally-regulated wetlands will be impacted at several other locations on the site by the
construction of roadways, utility lines, and stormwater basins. To mitigate impacts to
federally-regulated wetlands, the sponsor proposes to create 0.61 acres of stormwater
wetlands, enhance 0.22 acres of existing stormwater wetlands, and create a new 0.10 acre
wetland.
