Montgomery County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Site Preparation - Montgomery #2; Stand A-10; Montgomery #3; Stands A-6 and A-18 will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves a post-harvest reduction of undesirable vegetation (forbs, ferns, other herbaceous plants) from the sites by spraying Glyfos before planting Norway spruce.
This action is to take place on a ten-acre site, presently occupied by stands of red pine and spruce. This action will remove the target vegetation on the site for a period of time sufficient to allow the spruce to dominate and occupy the site before the influx of herbaceous growth in the two years following the spray action. The only vegetation to be removed is non-threatened or non-endangered species. Impact on public health is minimal. Personnel will be equipped with safety equipment. Also, following label instructions for the application will minimize risk. The project is located approximately 0.4 of a mile north of Rural Grove on Logtown Road, Town of Root.
