New York City (Queens) County - The New York City Department of Sanitation, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed construction of Department of Sanitation Queens Community District 14 Garage, Lot Cleaning Unit and Salt Storage Facility will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves construction of a garage facility, salt storage facility and an accessory parking yard for City-owned vehicles and personnel cars. The garage structure would consist of a one story area for vehicle maintenance and storage, and a three-story administrative/personnel block. The proposed project site would provide sufficient space to accommodate all DOS equipment and personnel used to collect and transport municipal solid waste and recyclables from residences in Queens CD 14. DOS anticipates that the proposed garage would be completed and fully operational by 2004. The project is located at 5402 Almeda Avenue (north of Almeda Avenue between Conch Basin and Sommerville Basin), Queens, New York.
