Article 15 Title 5 Dam |
| Project is Located: | Gorham, Ontario County | |
Project Description: The applicant proposes to modify an existing irrigation pond dam as part of a 35 acre golf course development on a 100 acre parcel on Townline Road. The modifications to the dam now proposed will allow the dam to meet permit issuance standards for a Class A hazard dam. The dam will impound 5.785 acre feet of water (1,886,000 gallons) when filled to its service spillway crest (the highest water elevation with no spillway discharge). The area draining into the pond is approximately 65 acres and the service and auxiliary spillways will drain to Fisher Gully, a tributary of Canandaigua Lake. Modifications to this Class A (lowest on a scale of A, B, and C) hazard dam will add 2550 cubic yards of compacted earth fill. This will result in a dam 14 feet wide at its top, 13.5 feet above the lowest point at its downstream toe with maximum slopes on both the upstream (pond) and downstream (dry) side of the dam no steeper than one foot of vertical rise to three feet of horizontal run. The service and auxiliary spillways are designed to prevent overtopping of the dam from a 100 year rainfall event with a water level at the service spillway crest at the beginning of the of the event. The application materials are available for review at the NYSDEC Region 8 office, and have also been provided to the Town of Gorham. |

Project Description: The Department has made a tentative determination to approve this application for a modification of an existing SPDES permit to discharge to tributaries of Mink Creek and Salmon Creek to allow the transfer (by truck) of up to 50,000 gallons per day of corn processing wastewater from the Seneca Foods Marion processing plant to the Seneca Foods East Williamson wastewater treatment system. The East Williamson processing facility is no longer operating, however, the wastewater treatment plant at that facility is operational and has been rehabilitated to allow adequate treatment of the Marion facility wastewater. Both facility permits will be modified to allow accurate tracking of cumulative annual maximum limitations for Total Suspended Solids and Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD5).The Marion facility is located at 3736 South Main Street in Marion. The East Williamson facility is located on Route 104 in Williamson. It should also be noted that the final polishing and discharge of the treated wastewater will be accomplished by pumping the water, via an existing pipeline, to a series of lagoons located at the former Seneca Foods Williamson facility, located directly west of the East Williamson facility, on Route 104. The draft permits are available for review and comment at the regional office. |
