Project Description: The applicant proposes to install a fiber optic telecommunications cable via directional boring from Mastic Beach under the Narrow Bay to a manhole in Smith Point County Park. From there two conduits, will be directional bored to a point approximately 1600' offshore. At this time one cable is proposed to be installed in these conduits and beyond. This cable will be sea plowed into the ocean bottom out to the 1500 meter water depth. The cable will then be laid on the ocean bottom to the United Kingdom. The second conduit would remain vacant for use as a spare for an emergency repair or future cable installation.The cable will be buried to a depth of 1.3 meters between mean high water and a depth of 1000 meters. An ocean grounding bed is also proposed on the upland on the north side of Fire Island in the Smith Point Park.
