Project Description: Browning-Ferris Industries, Niagara Recycling, Inc. (local office 56th Street & Niagara Falls Blvd., Niagara Falls), has applied to the Department to modify it's Solid Waste Management Permit for the existing operating South Side Transfer Station, located at 777 Indian Road, in the Town of Cheektowaga. The transfer station is presently authorized to accept and transfer 62,400 tons per quarter of municipal solid waste (MSW) and tires. The company is now seeking to accept a new waste stream, consisting of debris from residential and commercial construction and demolition (C & D) projects. The types of materials accepted would consist of wood, shingles, paneling, wall board, wiring, electrical conduit and piping. No asbestos, soil, concrete rubble, steel beams, bricks and debris containing reinforcement steel (re-bar) would be accepted. The company has stated that even with the present request to accept non-putrescible C & D material, the overall trucking tonnage (62,400/quarter) for both the existing MSW and tire waste stream, combined with the new waste stream, will remain the same. |
