Project Description: The applicant proposes to hydraulically dredge a 2300 linear ft. navigation channel, 50 ft. wide and 100 ft. wide in the turn-around area, to 5 ft. below apparent low water. Resultant 15,600 cubic yards of dredge spoil will be pumped across Shinnecock Bay where the dredge pipe will make landfall at Road C and then be pumped across Dune Road and the beach to the intertidal zone where it will be discharged to the Atlantic Ocean. Sediment/erosion control measures have been incorporated into the planning; this includes restoration of all disturbed areas with appropriate native species; use of strawbales and snow fencing to prevent sedimentation; and the use of a baffle at the discharge/ocean end of the dredge pipe to prevent scouring. The proposal is located in East Pond (Old Fort Pond), Shinnecock Bay, Road C, and the Atlantic Ocean, Town/Village of Southampton, County of Suffolk. |
