Notice of Acceptance of Draft EIS

Nassau County - The Village of Sands Point, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Elevated Water Storage Tank. A public hearing on the Draft EIS will be held on August 14, 2001 at 8:00 p.m. at 26 Tibbits Lane, Sands Point, New York. Written comments on the Draft EIS will be accepted until August 24, 2001. The action involves the proposed location and construction of a one million gallon elevated water storage tank. The original proposed action was for the water department property on Governorís Lane. The DEIS has identified the Nassau County owned Sands Point Preserve property as a preferred alternative and recommended the removal of the existing 100,000 gallon tank presently located in the Preserve. The project is located in the Village of Sands Point.

Suffolk County The Town of Brookhaven, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Horseblock Road Landfill Cell 6 Expansion Project. Public hearings on the Draft EIS will be held on August 7, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Town Offices, Auditorium, Building 4, 3233 Route 112, Medford, New York. Written comments on the Draft EIS will be accepted until Monday, August 20, 2001. The action involves construction and operation of a landfill expansion within the property boundaries of the existing Town of Brookhaven Waste Management Facility Site. The total acreage involved in the project will be 184 of the 534 total acres at the Waste Management Facility Site. The project is located in the south-central portion of the Town of Brookhaven.

Suffolk County - The State Education Department, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft EIS on the proposed land acquisition and addition/alteration to the East Hampton High School for the East Hampton Union Free School District, SED Project No. 58-03-01-02-0-006-013. Comments are requested on the Draft EIS and will be accepted by the contact person until August 20, 2001. The project involves the acquisition of 34.5 acres of land by the East Hampton Union Free School District directly south of the existing East Hampton High School on the south side of Long Lane in the Village of East Hampton. The land will be used for the development of additional play fields for recreational purposes only. The Board of Education has no plans to construct any buildings or parking areas on the property. The new play fields are needed to support present and future physical education and athletic programs of the district, as well as the recreational needs of the East Hampton community. The 34.5 acre site is centrally located within the district north of the East Hampton Village in the Town of East Hampton, Suffolk County, Long Island.

Notice of Acceptance of Supplemental EIS

Suffolk County - The State Education Department, as lead agency, has accepted a Supplemental EIS on the proposed additions/alterations to the Pierson High School in the Sag Harbor Union Free School District, SED Project No. 58-03-05-02-0-001-012. Comments are requested on the Supplemental EIS and will be accepted by the contact person until August 20, 2001. The project involves the construction of a 49,300 SF multi-story compact classroom addition and a separate 12,120 SF gymnasium/locker room addition to the existing Middle School wing at the Pierson High School Facility. A 1,600 SF maintenance-storage building will be located on Montauk Avenue. The construction will occur on the southern portion of the high school and middle school, around the existing auditorium and off the Middle School wing. The completed project will take up 3.4 acres, leaving approximately 66% of the existing 9.6-acre site as playfields and open space. The project is located on Jermain Avenue in the Town of East Hampton.
