|Positive Declaration and Public Scoping Meeting|
Wayne County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, as lead agency, has determined that the Sodus Lime and Stone Co. proposal to develop and operate a new 62-acre hard rock quarry may have a significant adverse impact on the environment and a Draft Environmental Impact Statement must be prepared. There will be public scoping for this project. A public scoping session will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2001, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Sodus Town Hall, 14-16 Mill Street. Written comments on the draft scope will be accepted until August 16, 2001. The Department has received a permit application from the Sodus Lime and Stone Co., Inc. for a mining permit to develop and operate a new 62-acre hard rock quarry on their property located on Quarry Road in the Town of Sodus. The mine will operate as a traditional surface extraction of limestone using vertical blast methods and mechanical equipment, standard for this type of mining operation. Preliminary descriptions anticipate that materials will be mined from below the water table. Two de-watering sump pits will be constructed within the mined areas to collect ground and surface water and convey it to surface water drainage facilities. On-site processing will include crushing and screening and washing, and support facilities will include an office/scale house and truck scales. The project is located in the Town of Sodus, Wayne County, on the southwest corner of the intersections of Quarry Road and South Geneva Road.
