Project Description: The following improvements to the Machias Water District supply and distribution system are proposed: 1. Abandonment of existing spring source and associated chlorination facility; 2. Development of a new well on Cattaraugus County's Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center - Machias Campus property, to supplement the existing well also located on this property. The new well has a tested capacity of 530 gallons per minute (gpm) and the applicant requests approval to take up to 350 gpm; 3. Install new circulation/booster pump to serve customers along Roszyk Road; 4. Rehabilitation of existing 100,000 gallon steel water storage tank; 5. Installation of water meters on all services; 6. Replacement of 7,700 linear feet of water main. The Machias Water District serves approximately 676 persons through 233 connections, 215 of which are residential. The average and peak daily demands are estimated to be 150,000 gallons per day and 300,000 gallons per day respectively. |

Project Description: The proposal is to place fill and topsoil, and grade a 60 long section of riverbank to provide a more gently sloped bank area of the East Branch Niagara River (Class A Special) on the applicant's property located on East River Road, approximately 350 feet south of Winkler Drive. A three foot wide flat area will be created at the top of slope along the highway shoulder. In addition, a three inch thick layer of topsoil will be placed along a 150 foot long, by 20 to 30 foot wide section of riverbank and revegetated. |
