Project Description: The Department has made a tentative decision to issue a permit to modify the plant to burn pre-consumer, non-recyclable, non-reusable, non-contaminated paper as a supplement to coal and reduce fuel costs. The project will include the addition of 17,000 sq. ft. Processing Building and a 1,000 sq. ft. fuel delivery building. The new buildings will process the 360 tons/day primary shredder which will shred to 3" and secondary shredders which will shred down to 1/4" and produce a paper fluff which will be air conveyed to the boilers. It is proposed that the alternative fuel: will receive a BUD and will be co-fired with pulverized coal (up to 30% by weight) in the existing steam generation equipment under the Department's alternative fuel policy. The alternative fuel will be utilized in up to three of the five boilers in service. Trigen-Syracuse is located on Industrial Drive in the Village of Solvay & Town of Geddes, Onondaga County. |
