Project Description: The applicant proposes to treat approximately 9 acres of State-designated Freshwater Wetland No. MB-49 (Class I) with the aquatic herbicide Navigate(R) for the control of a water chestnut (Trapa natans) infestation. Additional portions of Tomahawk Lake along the shoreline and in the northern portion of the lake will also be treated to control water chestnuts, resulting in a total treatment area of approximately 30 acres. The herbicide would be applied by a NYS certified pesticide applicator at a rate of 200 lbs/acre. The active ingredient of Navigate(R) is the herbicide 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, butoxyethel ester. To achieve the desired level of control, treatments may be repeated over a period of three growing seasons within successively smaller areas of the lake, beginning in 2001. The applicant has also applied for a DEC Article 15, Aquatic Pesticide permit for this project. |
