Public Hearing

The New York State Department of State Division of Coastal Resources will hold a public hearing on significant coastal fish and wildlife habitat areas in the Peconic Bays on Thursday, June 14, 2001 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in the Legislative Auditorium at the Riverhead County Center, Riverhead, NY. The Department of State is presently considering draft revisions of 46 designated significant coastal fish and wildlife habitats, twelve of which have draft boundary changes. In addition, the Department is considering the designation of 5 new significant coastal fish and wildlife habitats in the Peconic Bays region. The public hearing is being held to obtain public comment on the accuracy of the information contained in the revised and proposed habitat narratives, and of the draft boundary extensions and location of new habitat areas. Written and oral comments from the public will be accepted at the hearing, and written comments will be accepted at the Department of State through close of business, Friday, June 29, 2001. Copies of the draft maps and narratives, which describe the locations and values of the habitats, are available for review prior to the public hearing at the following locations:

Scoping Meeting on Generic Environmental Impact Statement

Nassau County - The New York State Department of Transportation, as lead agency, will hold a public scoping meeting on the Generic Environmental Impact Statement for the Finalization and Adoption of Master Plan Update for Republic Airport. The meeting will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. til 9:00 p.m. at 7551 Republic Airport, Room 201, East Farmingdale, New York. Each speaker will be allotted 4 minutes to comment on the environmental issues to be studied and the extent of the analyses to be included in the GEIS. Speakers will be allowed to select a time two weeks prior to the meeting by calling (631) 752-7707 ext. 110. The action involves the finalization and adoption of a Master Plan Update for Republic Airport. The proposed improvements include obstruction removal of all approaches to runways; the acquisition of easements or other property interests primarily to meet federal safety guidelines for Runway Protection Zone safety areas, Obstacle Free Areas and Federal Aviation Regulations Part 77 transitional surfaces; relocation or extension of taxiways and fence lines for safety and operational purposes; the relocation of the displaced threshold on Runway 19 for safety reasons; corporate aviation development and non-aviation development. The project occupies 526 acres in East Farmingdale, in the Town of Babylon.
