Project Description:

The applicant proposes to fill and shape two sections of eroded streambank (a 200 lineal foot and 50 lineal foot section) of Great Valley Creek using material removed from gravel bars at the same location. The project is located at the applicant's property off County Route 71 (Sugartown Road), about 1,500 feet south the intersection of Sugartown and Sommerville Valley Roads.

State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination: Project is an Unlisted Action and will not have a significant impact on the environment. A Negative Declaration is on file. A coordinated review was not performed.
SEQR Lead Agency: None Designated
State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination: Cultural resource lists and map have been checked. No registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures were identified at the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.
Coastal Management: This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.
Opportunity for Public Comment: Comments on this project must be submitted in writing to the Contact Person no later than Jun 22 2001.

Project Description:

The applicant proposes to construct an earthen dam (Class C Hazard) creating an approximate 5.5 acre reservoir that is expected to hold about 42 million gallons of water. The spillway will consist of a 14-inch diameter ductile iron pipe and the auxiliary spillway channel will be lined with riprap. The material to construct the dam will be obtained from within the reservoir area and a supplemental borrow area immediately west of the reservoir. The purpose of the proposed reservoir is to store water that will eventually be used to create snow for ski slopes. The project site is located approximately 3,400 feet south of NYS Route 242, 2,200 feet north of Mutton Hollow Road. A portion of the reservoir will be located in the Town of Ellicottville and the remaining portion of the reservoir and the supplemental borrow area will be located in the Town of Mansfield.     

State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination: Project is a Type I action and will not have a significant effect on the environment. A coordinated review with other agencies was performed and a Negative Declaration is on file.
SEQR Lead Agency: NYS Department of Environmental Conservation
State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination: A Structural-Archaeological Assessment Form has been completed. The proposed activity will not impact on registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures.
Coastal Management: This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.
