Safety Kleen Systems, Inc., formerly Safety Kleen Corporation, is a solvent distributor and recycler (reclaimer). Its customers are primarily engaged in automotive repair, industrial maintenance and dry cleaning. The company offers spent solvent collection and reclamation. The facility operates under the state 6 NYCRR Part 373 hazardous waste management permit issued on 9/27/91. The area is zoned for commercial use and the facility is located in a business/industrial area approximately one half mile south of the Wellwood Avenue exit off the Southern State Parkway. Majority of this facility's customers generate less than 1000 kg (2200 lbs) per month of hazardous wastes. Wastes managed by Safety Kleen Systems are transported in its transport vehicles to one of Safety Kleen's Recycle/Process Centers or to contract reclaimers located outside New York State. In many instances the recovered materials are returned to customers as usable product. Safety Kleen Systems plans to convert the existing permitted container storage areas to exempt 10 day transfer/storage areas in accordance with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Regulations. This will allow the facility to store other type of hazardous wastes not previously permitted as exempt wastes. These exempt transfer/storage areas will be removed from the permit.

The existing permitted two 6,000-gallon hazardous waste storage tank will continue its operation under the renewed permit. The recyclable waste solvents generated by the Parts Washer Services, which is the primary business of the facility, will be collected by Safety Kleen's own transport vehicles and stored in the permitted tank prior to transportation to the Recycle Centers in tanker trucks. Containerized spent parts washer solvent routed to the facility will remain on the transport vehicles for a limited time prior to it being transferred into the bulk storage tank through the return and fill station or transferred to the proposed two permitted staging/storage areas if required. Safety Kleen stores in the permitted storage tank three types of spent cleaning solvents: ignitable solvents, water-based solvents and solvents with a high flash point which are not classified as ignitable under the Department regulations. All these wastes derived from these solvents are managed as hazardous wastes. All ignitable wastes at the facility will be stored 50 feet from the facility property line.

The applicant proposes the construction of a new single family dwelling with garage, 4'X 8' porch, septic system and driveway. All structures will be a minimum of 75 linear feet from the NYSDEC regulated Freshwater Wetlands ( MP-30). The proposal is located 220 Essix St., Montauk. SCTM 300-28-2-p/o 8.

The applicant proposes the demolition of an existing residence and the construction of a new single family residence with septic system. The new dwelling will be larger than the existing , but be designed to maintain the existing 72 foot setback from NYSDEC regulated Freshwater Wetlands. The propsal is located at Manetto Hill Road, West Hills. SCTM 400-227-01-p/o 33.

The applicant proposes to retrofit an existing 1,000 gallon per minute (gpm) public supply well for use as an irrigation well, utilizing a 1,500 gpm deep well vertical turbine pump. The applicant also proposes to install a new well to a depth of 80 feet, with a capacity of 100 gpm for irrigation purposes. The project is located at Timber Point Golf Course, River Road at Connetquot River, Great River, Town of Islip, Suffolk County, SCTM# 0500-451-1-4.

The applicant proposes to: subdivide a 12.6 acre parcel into 17 residential lots with a dwelling and associated amenities on each and internal roadways; replace 760 feet of bulkhead within 18" and replace/expand landward wood walk and placement of approximately 420 cubic yards of clean upland fill as backfill; remove existing footbridge on north side of pond and reconstruct on south side of pond; reconstruct existing dam and replace footbridge; remove existing structures including asphalt drive and revegetate; install 3' x 15' ramp, 6' x 15' float and four anchor piles.
