Project Description: The applicant proposes surface mining of unconsolidated sand and gravel, from a 14 acre life of mine area, using front end loaders. This is part of a 96 acre parcel of land, owned by Michael Christian, located on the north side of Brookfield Road, at the Brookfield Road and Alden Road intersection, in the Town of Essex. The haul road is perpendicular to Brookfield Road. The area affected during the initial five year permit term will be two acres. A small crusher will be used on site to produce crusher run material to be stock-piled on site. Reclamation of the pit will be concurrent with mining, and will consist of grading the mine face to 2 on 1 slopes, dressing with topsoil, fertilizing, and seeding with Conservation Green Grass mixture. |
