Project Description: The action involves the treatment of approximately 36 acres of Lake George (total lake surface approximately 28,000 acres) at four specific locations with Sonar (fluridone), an aquatic herbicide, for Eurasian Watermilfoil control. As part of the Eurasian Watermilfoil control demonstration project, the applicant is proposing the construction of temporary isolation curtains. The isolation curtains will limit the exchange of water between the areas treated with Sonar and the remaining waters of Lake George. This will allow isolated treatments of the test areas and create the most effective conditions for the critical period of herbicide-plant interaction. The specific locations of the treatment areas and isolations curtains are as follows: Paradise Bay southeast of Hazel Island, Moonlight Bay located in the south central portion of Harbor Island, West Tongue Mountain Bay located on the east side of Northwest Bay, Sawmill Bay located east of Green Island. The proposed duration of the isolation curtain installation is approximately 6 weeks. A companion notice of complete application (APA Project No. 2001-6) is published in this issue of the ENB, and can be found at the following location http://www.dec.state.ny.us/website/enb2001/20010425/not5.html. The notice of Acceptance of the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the Control of Eurasian Watermilfoil in Lake George with Fluridone, Revised Draft by ENSR (March 2001), was published in the April 11, 2001 edition of the ENB, which can be found at the following location http://www.dec.state.ny.us/website/enb2001/20010411/not5.html.
