Tompkins and Schuyler Counties - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Management Ignited Prescribed Fire Connecticut Hill Wildlife Management Area will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves a controlled burn of 11 acres on Connecticut Hill Wildlife Management Area in Tompkins and Schuyler counties. The proposed burn is broken down into 3 sub-units ranging in size from 3 to 5 acres. The purpose of the prescribed fire is to consume available fuels and retard brush and tree growth to promote the growth and vigor of grass species and legumes to maintain the site in early successional habitat consistent with wildlife management goals. The prescribed fire is planned for early March through early June of 2001. The controlled burn may be selected any time between these dates, provided environmental conditions are favorable to accomplish the specific management goals. The project is located on Connecticut Hill Road, DEC access road; Town of Newfield and Town of Catherine.
