Project Description:

The applicant proposes to develop a new 36.1 acre life of mine sand and gravel pit north of the LaPlante Road in the Towns of Altona and Beekmantown. The mine site is a portion of a 180 acre parcel owned by the applicant at this location. Five acres are proposed to be affected by mining activities during the initial 5 year permit term and 3 acres are proposed to be reclaimed during this same period of time. Crushing and screening of mined materials will take place on the site and the products may be temporarily stockpiled on-site. Reclamation will consist of grading to stable slopes with final slopes blended into the general land patterns of the area. The final slopes and pit floor will be covered with stockpiled organic matter, seeded with a cool season grass mix, fertilized and mulched to establish a vegetative cover.

State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination: Project is a Type I action and will not have a significant effect on the environment. A coordinated review with other agencies was performed and a Negative Declaration is on file.
SEQR Lead Agency: NYS Department of Environmental Conservation
State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination: Cultural resource lists and map have been checked. No registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures were identified at the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.
Coastal Management: This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.
Opportunity for Public Comment: Comments on this project must be submitted in writing to the Contact Person no later than May 4 2001.
