Project description: The department has made a tentative determination to issue a SPDES permit for the discharge of 30,000 gallons per day of treated sanitary waste to the groundwater located at Corporate Court, Holtsville, New York. The proposed discharge is located within an area designated as a sole source aquifer. The following public water purveyors have been identified as having service areas located within a three mile radius of the applicant’s facility: 1) Suffolk County Water Authority.

The Department of Environmental Conservation has determined that discharges originating from coin-operated Laundromats without on-site dry cleaning operations should be classified as Non-Significant Industrial Minor facilities, instead of their current classification as Significant Industrial Minor facilities. Therefore, the Department intends to modify the SPDES permits listed below to reflect this change. As a result of this change, these permittees will no longer be required to submit Discharge Monitoring Reports. However, permittees will continue to be required to collect monthly wastewater samples, have them analyzed by a state certified laboratory, and retain the results. All other special and general conditions of these permits shall remain in effect.

Nassau County - The Town of Oyster Bay, as lead agency, has determined that the three proposed Changes of Zone and a Special Use Permit may have a significant adverse environmental impact and a draft EIS must be prepared. The action involves the construction of an assisted living facility, an "S-2" senior housing complex; and a Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse and Garden Center; along with recreational facilities to be dedicated to the Town of Oyster Bay and the Village of Amityville all on a 58.56 acre site. The project is located on both the north and south sides of Sunrise Highway, east and west of Carmans Road, Massapequa, Towns of Oyster Bay and Babylon and the Incorporated Village of Amityville.

Suffolk County - The Town Board of the Town of Southampton, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Generic EIS (“DGEIS”) on the proposed Town of Southampton, Atlantic Ocean Shoreline. A public hearing on the DGEIS will be held on April 10, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at Town Hall, 116 Hampton Road, Southampton, New York. Public comments will be accepted until April 30, 2001. The action involves the Town of Southampton’s need to reexamine its Town Code (specifically Chapter 138) with respect to regulating activities along the Atlantic shoreline. The Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement examines alternative actions for management of the Town’s Atlantic Shoreline Coastal Erosion Hazard Area in order to develop a comprehensive approach to reduce flooding and erosion impacts to private and public property, while avoiding or minimizing impacts to natural coastal dynamics, costal vegetation and wildlife resources, and scenic and public access features of the shoreline. The study area for this DGEIS covers the fourteen (14) miles of the Town’s Atlantic coastline but excludes the Village’s shorelines. The inland limits of the study area for this DGEIS are the first inland street from the ocean, or the inland boundary of the shoreline lot. The project is located on the Atlantic Coast, Southampton.
