Project Description:

The Department has made a tentatice decision to approve a permit modification request to allow the injection of Sodium Hypochlorite at two of the power station's cooling water intakes to prevent bifouling of the system. The current permit authorizes water to be used to cool the plant's electric producing processes and return the water to Hempstead Harbor. Monitoring of the residual chlorine will be required at the plants discharge point. The project site is located at the Glenwood Power Station in Glenwood Landing, Town of North Hempstead, Nassau County. A draft permit is available for review at the regional DEC office in Stony Brook.

State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination: Project is not subject to SEQR because it is a Type II action.
