Article 23 Title 27 Mined Land Reclamation |
| Project is Located: | Sodus, Wayne County | |
Project Description: The applicant proposes to expand an existing 4 acre surface sand and gravel mine to 20.66 acres within a 44 acre parcel south of Sodus Center Road in the Town of Sodus. The project site is on the applicant's property approximately 0.33 mile west southwest of the village of Sodus Center. The mine is intended to operate as a traditional surface extraction of the Alton series of gravelly loam which is the predominant soil type on the site. Mining below the local water table is not proposed. Excavation will be done by bulldozers and front end loaders, standard for sand and gravel mining operations. Mining is proposed to remove approximately 80,000 cubic yards per year of aggregate sand and gravel over the estimated 10 year operational life of the mine. Material will be stockpiled as unprocessed "run-of-bank" for loading on trucks for transport off of the site. There will be no on-site screening or processing. Final reclamation will restore the site to graded and re-vegetated open land. Reclamation will include the replacement of stockpiled topsoil, and re-seeding. |
