Oneida County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Site Preparation - Oneida 21; Stand A-21 will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves herbicide application to ferns and ground vegetation in conjunction with a timber sale harvest. Herbicide treatment will occur in an area comprising 32 acres. A total of 48 acres are being selectively harvested of which the treatment area is a part. In the treatment area the ground cover is primarily hayscented and New York ferns. There is no significant amount of regeneration of desirable hardwoods. Hardwoods such as black cherry and hard maple will not become established in sufficient quantity after the harvest without removal of the dense ground cover. The herbicide Roundup will be used to treat the vegetation. The project is located approximately two miles north of Lee Center.
