Project Description: The Genesee County Water Resources Agency has submitted a water supply application to fulfill a County - wide strategy of providing drinking water to areas in Genesee County. The source of supply will be Lake Erie via the Erie County Water Authority ( ECWA) and Lake Ontario via the Monroe County Water Authoriy (MCWA). The ECWA will provide up to an average of 700,000. gallons per day (gpd) and the MCWA will provide up to an average of 5,969,809 gpd of treated water over the planning period. The ECWA at this time will serve areas in the Town of Pembroke and Darien. The MCWA will serve areas in the Towns of Byron, Bergen, Leroy, Stafford and Oakfield. Later phases of the project will extend water to other areas in Genesee County. A draft water supply permit and additional project information is available for review. |

Project Description: The applicant proposes to develop and operate an unconsolidated sand and gravel pit. The mine will operate as a traditional surface extraction of sand and gravel by mechanized equipment standard for these types of mining operations. Materials will be processed using screening; no mining will occur below the local water table. This site has been historically used to mine gravel at volumes that did not require a DEC mining permit. Final reclamation will restore the site to agricultural use. The Life of Mine area is 23.4 acres. The mine is located west of NYS Route 226 near the intersection of Brace Hill Road, approximately 2 miles south of the hamlet of Tyrone in the Town of Tyrone, Schuyler County. Lamoka Lake lies approximately 1500 feet to the northwest of the proposed mine. Application materials are available for public review and comment at the Regional Office of NYS DEC. |
